Active Threat Training Explainer
Emergency Management has received requests to distinguish between the basic active threat training and the advanced class being offered in June of 2024.

The Basic Active Shooter Workshop (ASWS) is an introduction to the run, hide or fight concept and includes an extended presentation in the morning. This allows participants time to process the information and ask questions about concepts some are learning for the first time. The course also provides a more in-depth Stop the Bleed presentation. The four scenarios at the Basic ASWS are very specific to one of the three options (run, hide or fight).

The advanced training day includes a condensed slide presentation as a refresher of what participants have learned in the basic training course. Stop the Bleed also is taught in a condensed format, but participants will have the opportunity to try the techniques taught in the class. There will be five or six additional scenarios and they will be more dynamic as there will be more than one option available to resolve the situations. At the end of the day, the Pima County Sheriff’s Department will play out a final contact scenario that allows participants to see the police response to an active shooter incident. Attendees are incorporated into this scenario. Any additional questions should be referred to College Emergency Management at 520-206-2638 or bwestberg@pima.edu.
