Veterans Education Benefits

VA paying for school

Pima recognizes the sacrifice of those who have served in the United States Armed Forces. As a veteran, service member or qualified family member, you may be eligible for educational benefits to further your goals.

PCC is approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs as a degree-granting institution for VA Education Benefits.

Yellow Ribbon Program

As of August 1st, 2020, Pima Community College is a Yellow Ribbon School.  Only individuals approved for Chapter 33 100% benefit level may receive funding.

The Post-9/11 GI Bill® pays in-state tuition and fee charges at public schools. Out of state students may receive additional funds to help cover the unmet costs of out-of-state tuition under the Yellow Ribbon Program.

Applications are submitted automatically when you submit your Certification Worksheet based on your residency and Post 9/11 GI Bill® status.

Click here for more information about the Yellow Ribbon Program.

Starting or Continuing Benefits

Pima welcomes veterans! If you would like to apply to use your VA Education Benefits at PCC, you will need to

  • be admitted to the College
  • satisfy the requirements listed in the Veterans Benefit Recipient (VBR) Dashboard, located on your MyPima Veterans tab
  • meet with a Veteran Advisor to discuss how your academic goals can be supported with your education benefits.

We also can help continuing and returning students with VA education benefits.  Get details on how to continue your VA benefits.

Have questions or need help determining your eligibility?  Visit any campus Veteran Advisor, the Veteran’s Center at the Downtown Campus, or contact us by phone or email.

Deferment of Payments

Deferment of payment for tuition, fees and required books and materials is available to anyone who is eligible for, and has applied for, VA benefits under Chapters 30, 31, 33, 35, and 1606.

Deferment considerations:

  • payments are deferred with no interest until the end of the deferral period
  • deferment is available during any registration period in which a VBR is awaiting VA benefits
  • VBR early book purchase program funds are available at any campus bookstore
