Join the Honors Program

Graduating with an honors certificate can help you stand out to employers. Even if you don't pursue the certificate, you’ll also benefit from faculty mentoring, small class sizes, community service and more.

The honors program is for current students only. Not a Pima student yet? Apply for admission online today

Check out the requirements below and contact us to join the honors program.

Honors program requirements

One way to get involved is to complete the course HON 101: Honors Colloquium. This introductory course helps you meet other honors students and builds your research, writing, and discussion skills.

To enroll in Honors Colloquium or any honors course, you must have a GPA of at least 3.5.

Please note: You do not need to take HON or HC (honors) classes to participate in the Honors Club or Phi Theta Kappa.

Incoming freshmen

If you are an incoming freshman with less than 12 college credits, you will need to have maintained at least a 3.5 GPA at an accredited high school, scored a 6-8 on the writing placement test, or have tested into MAT 189 on the math placement test.

Transfer students

Transfer students with at least 12 college credits should have a GPA of at least 3.5 at their previous institution. If you are a transfer student who has not completed 12 college credits, please follow the requirements for incoming freshmen.

To graduate with honors, you will complete a variety of honors courses. You may receive honors credit for non-honors courses by signing an Honors Contract and completing extra work. Honors courses are identified by the letters HC in the course number. You can take honors courses if you have a GPA of 3.5 or higher.

Honors certificate requirements

To graduate with an Honors Program Certificate of Completion, you must complete at least 15 credit hours of Pima honor courses—including HON 101—with an A or B grade. Your GPA at graduation from Pima must be at least 3.5.
