Guitar Orchestra Festival Celebrates Music, Collaboration, April 11
Tucson, AZ — The Pima Community College Music Department invites the community to experience an evening of rich musical collaboration at the Guitar Orchestra Festival at 7 p.m., on Saturday, April 11 in the Proscenium Theatre at the West Campus Center for the Arts.
This dynamic concert will showcase a diverse lineup of talented guitarists from Cochise College, Pima Community College, Sahuaro High School and the Tucson Guitar Society–University of Arizona. Bringing together performers from across Southern Arizona, the festival highlights the depth and versatility of the guitar in both ensemble and orchestral settings.
Audiences are encouraged to arrive early for a special open-mic showcase, featuring soloists and small ensembles in an intimate, informal setting, at 6:15 p.m., outside the Proscenium.
A highlight of the evening will be the premiere performance of “Lemon Leaves,” a new work by Mexican composer Nur Slim, performed by the combined festival ensembles. This debut underscores the festival’s commitment to celebrating contemporary voices and cross-cultural musical expression.
Directed and coordinated by Michael Lich, director of Pima Community College’s Guitar Ensemble, the Guitar Orchestra Festival offers a unique opportunity to experience the beauty and power of the guitar, as musicians of varying backgrounds and styles come together for a captivating and memorable performance.
