Experience the Pima Community College Spring Music Showcase, March 29
Tucson, AZ - The Pima Community College Music Department proudly presents its Spring Music Showcase 1-5 p.m., Sunday, March 29. This free event invites the community to enjoy an afternoon of diverse and captivating performances by Pima’s talented student ensembles, with a special appearance by the Musical Theater Workshop.
From the rich harmonies of Chorale & College Singers to the dynamic rhythms of Concert Band, Guitar Ensemble, String Ensemble, Mariachi Ensemble and Orchestra, plus selections from Musical Theater Workshop, this celebration of music offers something for everyone in an afternoon of live music and student talent.

Under the direction of Victor Valenzuela, the Pima Concert Band will present a short but diverse program. With the theme “A Return to Broadway,” the Band will present selections from “The Lion King,” as well as music by John Philip Sousa, Morten Lauridsen and Tyler Grant. This performance is sure to entertain.
Directed by Anne Grimes, D.M.A., Pima Symphonic Orchestra will entertain you with music of various genres, including “Olympic Fanfare and Theme,” Beethoven’s Fifth Symphony (first movement), “Procession of the Nobles,” and “A Disney Spectacular.”
Under the direction of Jonathan Ng, D.M.A., Pima Chorale & College Singers presents a rich program of contemporary, but timeless choral works and beloved classics. Highlights include Judith Herrington’s “Stars Tonight,” Felix Mendelssohn’s “Abchied vom Walde,” Josquin des Prez’s “El Grillo,” Jeffrey L. Ames’s “I’ve Been in the Storm So Long,” Johannes Brahms’s duet “Die Schwestern,” Bob Chilcott’s arrangement of the Japanese folk song”Aka-Tonbo,” Mark Miller’s “I Believe” and “What Wonder!” from Joseph Haydn’s masterpiece “The Creation.” Together, these works create a heartfelt celebration of love and the unifying power of song.
Led by Michael Lich, the Pima Guitar Ensemble will perform an eclectic mix of compositions and arrangements for guitar orchestra as well as smaller ensembles. The program will feature colorful and exciting pieces by Luc Levesque, Mark Houghton and Tears for Fears, plus original works by Lich.
Pima String Ensemble, under the direction of Fang Fang Li, highlights the expressive power of string music. Blending classical repertoire with contemporary selections, the ensemble delivers performances rich in harmony and artistry.
Led by Salvador Gallegos, Pima Mariachi Ensemble, Mariachi Azteca de Pima College, will perform traditional and contemporary mariachi compositions representative of the folkloric Mexican music art form.
The Musical Theater Workshop, directed by Anne Grimes and Chris Will, will perform scenes from the Tony Award-winning musical “Hadestown.” The selections highlight the strong vocals and storytelling skills of Pima’s musical theater students.
