Pima Community College to Honor More Than 4600 Graduates for 2024 Commencement Ceremony at TCC

Tucson, AZ - Pima Community College will return to the Tucson Convention Center on Wednesday, May 22, for its 2024 Graduation Ceremony.

For the 2024 academic year and previous summer, Pima will award a total of 6,071 degrees or certificates to 4,699 students. Some students are awarded multiple degrees or certificates.

This year’s commencement speaker is Maria “Wendy” Castro Jimenez, a Tucson native who is a first-generation graduate earning a Liberal Arts degree, achieving the highest honors. She has volunteered at many Tucson organizations including, Banner Health, Children’s Tucson Medical Center, Kitchens of Southern Arizona, and Youth on Their Own.

“As a first-generation graduate, we carry with us the hopes and dreams of those who came before us, as well as the responsibility to pave the way for those who will follow,” said Castro Jimenez. “Here at Pima, embracing diversity means recognizing the unique perspectives and experiences that each individual brings to the table.”

Castro Jimenez plans to attend the University of Arizona this fall and pursue a bachelor's degree in psychology. Her goal is to open her own private practice in the future.

The five Pima associate degree programs with the most graduating candidates this year are:

  • 718 liberal Arts (Associate of Arts)
  • 213 Science (Associate of Science)
  • 161 Business Administration (Associate of Business)
  • 149 Nursing (Associate of Applied Science)
  • 91 General Studies (Associate of General Studies) 

Class Profile

A total of 4,699 Pima Community College students have graduated or are candidates for graduation.

The oldest graduate is 82 years old and earned a Post Degree Certificate in Paralegal in December 2023. The youngest graduate is 16 years old and earned the Arizona General Education Curriculum Certificate (AGEC-A) in December 2023.

The class has 2,435 female candidates and 2,217 male candidates. (Some students do not indicate a gender on their graduation application.)

A total of 137 graduation candidates, or 8.76% of the 1,552 associate degree candidates, have a grade point average of 3.90 or greater and meet the requirement for graduation with the highest honors.

  • 12 Native Hawaiian or Pacific Islander
