Program Requirements

All students who are entering or continuing the Dental Hygiene program must provide proof of the following vaccinations:

• MMR
• Varicella
• Hepatitis B (three (3) doses)
• Tdap
• Annual flu shot
• Annual TB test (or negative chest X-ray)
• COVID-19 (recommended, not required)

You must provide documentation of positive titers or reapply.

• You may request a vaccination exemption. Contact the Dental Hygiene Program Director for information on the process and to get the Vaccination Declination Form.

Physical and Mental Readiness

You should be prepared for physically demanding activities, such as patient lifting and prolonged standing, and to mentally handle stress and critical decision-making.

Program Requirements

• Attend Dental Hygienist Program
• Orientation Obtain/maintain an Arizona DPS Fingerprint Clearance Card
• Pass a urine toxicology screening
• Serve as a patient for classmates’ practice (under licensed supervision)
• Follow OSHA and CDC guidelines for safety and exposure
• Manage work, personal and academic responsibilities
• Arrange transportation to clinical sites
• Maintain health insurance throughout your enrollment

Program Details

The Dental Hygienist program is a full-time, four (4)-semester curriculum held at Pima’s West Campus. You must pass core courses with a “C” or better. If you withdraw from the program, you may re-enter it once within a year, space permitting.
