Adult Basic Education Programs

PCC Adult Basic Education for College & Career division includes classes in High School Equivalency (HSE) preparation, English Language Acquisition, Citizenship and more. These courses are free and open to the public.

Courses are offered throughout the community and online to meet your busy schedules.

You must attend an orientation to take Adult Basic Education courses.

To enroll in classes you must provide documentation to show you are lawfully present in the United States.

Adult Basic Education

This program is geared to entry-level study and teaches basic reading, math and language skills.

High School Equivalency (HSE) Preparation

If you are planning to take the GED® test, PCC offers you classes that prepare you through in-depth reading, writing, social studies, science and math classes. HSE classes are also offered online with some in-person instruction required.

High School Equivalency (HSE) Testing

PCC administers the GED® test on a regular basis.

English Language Acquisition for Adults (ELAA)

If you would like to improve your English language skills, PCC offers you classes that focus on speaking, listening, reading and writing skills from beginning to advanced levels.

IBEST Programs

Integrated Basic Education and Skills Training (IBEST):  Prepare for your GED® while pursuing a career/technical certificate.  These classes support you so that you reach 2 goals at once:  prepare for the GED® test and complete a College certificate that can lead to a good wage and career advancement.

PCC Adult Basic Education for College and Career (ABECC) also offers programs for specific groups of people, including the following:

Refugee Education Program

If you have entered the United States on a legal refugee status, the Refugee Education Program (REP) offers you an English-language learning program. Instruction is designed for students from the lowest literacy levels through college entrance levels. Courses focus on practical English skills that help you function independently on the job and in daily living. Instructors are certified in Adult Education by the State of Arizona.

Rights and Responsibilities of Citizenship

PCC provides educational support for individuals seeking United States citizenship, offering classes in civic engagement, history and government.
