Attend Raquel Rubio Goldsmith Lecture / Fundraiser

The 4th Annual Raquel Rubio Goldsmith Lecture in Ethnic, Gender & Transborder Studies features 2014 National Humanities Medalist Dr. Vicki Ruíz. Ruíz is Distinguished Professor Emerita of History and Chicano/Latino Studies, University of California, Irvine. She is a pioneer in Mexican American/Chicanx history. Ruíz was awarded the 2014 National Medal in the Humanities by President Barack Obama.

  • When: Nov. 14, 6-8 p.m. (reception at 5 p.m.)
  • Where: Downtown Campus, Amethyst Community Room
  • Cost: Free and open to the public

Ruíz also is the featured speaker at a Scholarship Endowment Fundraiser Luncheon for Mexican American Studies Students:

  • Topic: “We are the first. . .to walk this path: Reflections on an Academic Journey”
  • When: Nov. 15, 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m.
  • Where: Brother John’s BBQ, 1801 N. Stone Ave. (one mile north of Downtown Campus. Plenty of free parking.)
  • Tickets: Purchase at www.pimafoundation.org/egts-luncheon/ $50 until November 1, $60 thereafter. All ticket proceeds above the cost of the luncheon go to the endowment and are tax-deductible.
