Student submissions sought for Sandscript

October 30, 2017

Students are invited to submit their best prose, poetry or visual art for SandScript Art and Literature. Details are at,, and the official SandScript Call for Submissions (pdf, 1.7 MB).

This is the third year in a row that Sandscript has won first place in the Community College Humanities Association (CCHA)’s Literacy Magazine Competition. The magazine is entirely composed of student work. According to the CCHA’s website, the Best Magazine category is judged holistically on the criteria of aesthetics, correct editing, ease of navigation, and strength of student work. Magazines compete within their class, based on enrollment and magazine funding levels.

The SandScript staff is composed of students in writing faculty Joshua Cochran’s Literary Magazine Workshop (WRT 162) class, which is offered every spring semester. In the class, students produce SandScript from start to finish in one semester. In 2014, Cochran received the CCHA Regional Distinguished Humanities Educator Award and was recognized as PCC’s Outstanding Faculty.
