Pima to honor 93 Registered Nurse graduates honored May 15

Tucson, AZ – Pima’s Nursing program candlelight and pinning ceremony on May 15 honors 93 graduates.

Hundreds of family and friends of the graduates are expected to attend the celebration. Danielle McBride is the student speaker. Also, during the ceremony, representatives of the Arizona Nurses Association, Chapter 2, will present an award and scholarship to a graduate. Dean of Division of Critical Care Joseph J. Gaw, Ed.D., MSN, RN, and Nursing Department Chair Yolanda McCoy-Stokes, MSN, RN, will pin each graduate with a Registered Nurse pin, then the graduates, along with all nurses attending, will recite the Florence Nightingale Pledge to conclude the event.
Nursing has been the College’s No. 4 degree program for the last few years. The Pima Class of 2019 includes 221 Nursing Associate of Applied Science graduates. Graduates of the Nursing program are qualified to take licensure exams to become a Registered Nurse.
This class includes PCC/Arizona State University Concurrent Enrollment Program (CEP), PCC/Northern Arizona University and Grand Canyon University CEP graduates. The ASU and NAU programs allow qualified associate degree nursing students to earn a Bachelor of Science Nursing while pursuing their Pima degree. The GCU CEP offers qualified associate degree nursing students who have a previous baccalaureate degree to begin their coursework in one of Grand Canyon University’s master’s pathways to fully complete their MSN there post-PCC graduation..
According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the number of employed registered nurses, is expected to grow 15 percent from 2016 to 2026, faster than the average for all occupations.
Pima Nursing is accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing, Inc. and the Arizona State Board of Nursing.
