Public Can View PCC Board Meetings Live on Web

June 12, 2013

Tucson, AZ – The public can view Pima Community College Governing Board meetings live over the Internet.

The College is offering streaming video through a link on its website in order to “make the business of governance as open and transparent as possible,” Vice Chancellor for Public Information and Federal Government Relations C.J. Karamargin says.

“Streaming live video helps fulfill the College’s vision to provide access without limits of time, place or distance,” Karamargin said. “It is an excellent way to reach our constituents at their convenience,” Karamargin added, noting that since May 2012 the College has been posting unedited video of Board meetings on its website within a few days of the meeting.

Trials of PCC’s live-streaming capability took place in April during the College’s successful search for a new chancellor. The technology worked smoothly, and more than 200 computers outside the College connected to the stream of public and employee forums with the four finalists.

PCC’s elected five-member Board will hold a public hearing on the proposed fiscal year 2013-2014 budget, tax rates and levies tonight at 6:30 in the College’s Community/Board Room at the District Office, 4905 E. Broadway Blvd. Review the College’s Proposed Fiscal Year 2014 Budget.

A Special Meeting to vote on property tax levies and the budget follows the public hearing. During the Special Meeting, the Governing Board will consider a motion to levy the increased property tax by a roll call vote.

The Board’s Regular Meeting for June is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
