Alberding Amble Raises $1,360 for PCC Math Scholarships

May 29, 2013

Tucson, AZ – Four Pima Community College students have been awarded Art Alberding Math Scholar Awards for 2013-14.

The students are Marina Nedyalkova, Paul J. Wells, Barton Yadlowski and Benjamin Yates. The scholarships are presented annually to qualifying PCC students and are named in honor of Dr. Art Alberding, Faculty Emeritus and one of the first members of the Colleges’ math faculty. Last year, the college also gave four of the scholarships.

The scholarships are funded in part by the annual Alberding Amble 5K and 1-mile Fun Run/Walk. This year’s event raised a total of $1,360 for the Art Alberding Math Scholar Award.

“Generosity ran high. Several runners contributed an additional donation to the scholarship,” said event organizer and PCC East Campus math faculty member Ana Jiménez. “PCC is looking forward to an even bigger and better event at our fourth annual Alberding Amble next April!”

Participants in the April 27 event at Lincoln Park, 4325 S. Pantano Road, ranged in age from 8- to 76-years-old. Registration fees totaled $775 and donations to the scholarship were $585. A total of 22 runners and walkers participated in the 5K. Medals were awarded to the top three men and top three women in each 10-year age bracket.

The fourth annual Alberding Amble is schedule for Saturday, April 12, 2014.
