Finalists Named in PCC Chancellor Search

Forums to be held for candidates to meet public, employees

Tucson, AZ – Two finalists have been named in the search for the next chancellor of Pima Community College.

At a Special Meeting Thursday night, the PCC Governing Board accepted the finalists for chancellor recommended by a 31-member citizens’ Search Advisory Committee.

The finalists, in alphabetical order:

  • Terrence J. Burgess, Ph.D., President, San Diego City College, San Diego, Calif.
  • Dr. María C. Sheehan, President, Truckee Meadows Community College, Reno, Nev.

Each finalist will visit PCC in the coming weeks to participate in informational forums where they meet the public and PCC employees, said Dr. Brenda B. Even, Governing Board chair. The Board also will interview each candidate.

Details of the forums will be posted on the College’s website,, as soon as they are made final, Dr. Even said. Also, the College’s Chancellor Search webpage will be updated with biographies, photos and other information about each finalist.

The Board hopes to have the new chancellor on the job by July.

The Board approved membership of the search committee in September 2012 after soliciting suggestions from the community.

“The committee did an outstanding job. We are so thrilled with the caliber of the candidates,” said Dr. Even, who co-chaired the committee with Board Member David Longoria.

In June 2012, the Board hired R.H. Perry & Associates to assist it in the chancellor search. R.H. Perry contacted more than 6,000 people from across the U.S. about the position. Thirty-nine people applied.
