Volunteer to receive Moderna COVID-19 vaccine, earn up to $997

You may be eligible to participate in the National Institute of Health-sponsored study on the impact of the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine on virus transmission. All participants will receive the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine and will be compensated for their participation.

The study is being conducted at about 40 sites around the U.S., including the University of Arizona.

Why is the study being done?

Although the Moderna vaccine is safe and effective, scientists do not know if it prevents asymptomatic infections or blocks transmission of COVID-19. The study will examine the effect of the vaccine on asymptomatic infection and transmission of COVID-19.

You may be eligible if you:

  • Are 18-29 years old

  • Are available to complete in-person study visits at UArizona

  • Have not been vaccinated against COVID-19

  • Have not had COVID-19

  • Are not allergic to components of the vaccine

Important details

  • 50% of participants will be vaccinated immediately and 50% will be vaccinated four months after enrollment.

  • Participants will complete four or five in-person visits at the UArizona Student Union over four or five months.

  • Participants will be asked to complete daily nasal swabs and to record information in an app-based eDiary.

  • Participants will be compensated for their time up to a maximum of $997, depending on the number of study visits and completed nasal swabs.
