About the Art Alberding Award
Art Alberding, Ph.D., was one of the first math faculty members when the College opened in 1969. He wrote much of the original math curriculum.
The Art Alberding Math Scholar Award program was established in his honor when he retired in the early 1990s. In 2005, the PCC Board of Governors awarded him emeritus status.
Each year, the Mathematics Faculty of Pima Community College’s East Campus presents the Art Alberding Math Scholar Award of $100 or more to a PCC student who demonstrates a love of mathematics and a commitment to education. In order to be considered for this award, the student must:
- be enrolled for 12 or more credits at PCC and
- have successfully completed Calculus I (MAT220), Topics in Calculus (MAT212) or Mathematics for Business I (MAT173) by the end of the Fall semester
- have a Grade Point Average (GPA) for PCC mathematics courses numbered 151 and above and GPA for all PCC courses numbered 100 and above of at least 3.00.
The award is given each Spring semester to be used to further the student’s education (e.g., to pay tuition or to buy required books).
