College Updates

Fire Academy Live Fire Demonstration
Fire Academy recruits will conduct their final live fire demonstration for their families, friends and the Pima community 5:30 p.m. Dec. 18. The event will be held at the City of Tucson Public Safety Academy, 10001 S. Wilmot Road.

Fire Academy Graduation
Fire Academy class 2022-02 graduation ceremony is 6 p.m. Dec. 20 at the West Campus Proscenium Theatre.

Donation Challenge Results
A West Campus Student Service Enrollment team challenged A Downtown Campus Student Service Enrollment team to see which could donate the most pounds of food to the ARC Resource Center and Food Pantry during November. The Best of the West team donated more pounds than the Downtown Campus Darlings team, but the real winners are our students who will greatly benefit from the more than 200 combined pounds of donated food. A special thank you to all who donated either food or via payroll deduction! Remember that you can donate food to the pantry at any time.

East Campus Printer Optimization Project
This week the East Campus IT team has begun implementing the College’s printer optimization plan, which involves removing redundant printers, replacing older printers and consolidating remaining printers. For some staff, these changes may make your default printer unavailable. In those cases, use PrinterLogic to find the nearest printer and select it as your new default printer. Learn more from the Knowledge Base about PrinterLogic on Windows or PrinterLogic on MacOS.

Holiday Ornaments
Pima’s Advanced Manufacturing Club is laser-engraving customized seasonal ornaments and LED nightlights. Hanukkah designs are available. For more information, contact advanced manufacturing club. Share the same email with any students who would like to volunteer to help.

Introducing Learning Communities at Pima
New collaborative teaching opportunities for faculty will be available in fall 2023. In a learning  community, students form a small cohort that takes two co-requisite classes in different disciplines. Faculty collaborate to develop complementary, innovative content. Team-teaching promotes rich pedagogies and flexible instructional practices and encourages students to make substantive connections between the curricula. Submit a Learning Community Interest Form by Dec. 23. Contact Faculty Fellow Dana Drake Rosenstein with any questions.

Multi-factor Authentication
Pima has adopted multi-factor authentication (MFA). After using a browser to log into a College system by entering your username and password, you will be prompted to enter a code. Download the Duo Mobile smartphone app, the simplest and most secure way to enter the code. If you have questions, see the FAQ.

Shared Governance Through AERC
Pima has a council of employees, known as the All-Employee Representative Council (AERC), that reviews and updates policies and finds solutions to matters affecting work conditions. Visit the AERC Intranet Page for more information. General meetings are open to all employees. Submit questions or concerns to any member or to the online comment box.

Submit a Pima Story Idea
Submit a story idea to highlight the amazing accomplishments of Pima students, faculty, staff and alums. Stories submitted may be featured on Pima’s website, social media accounts and other promotional materials. If you have questions, contact Web Systems, websystems@pima.edu.
