College Updates

U.S.-Mexico Shared Cultural Heritages
In commemoration of Hispanic Heritage Month, The Learning Center presents Luis Coronado Guel, Ph.D., director for Mexico Initiatives at the University of Arizona College of Social & Behavioral Sciences. Coronado is affiliated to the Department of Mexican American Studies, the Southwest Center, and the Binational Migration Institute. He also is an adjunct professor at the UA Department of History. His presentation will explore some of the shared cultural heritages historically formed between the U.S. and Mexico, focusing on diverse expressions of popular culture from the Arizona-Sonora borderlands region. Coronado will briefly discuss the complexity of change reflected in the transformations of people, spaces and identities in the border region, which ultimately produces unique cultural expressions of diversity present in music, gastronomy, art, traditions and imagery.

  • Date and Time: Sept. 19, 2 p.m.
  • Virtual: https://pima.zoom.us/j/97254786017
  • Certificates: Global Learning, Anti-Racist, Inclusive, and Equitable Pedagogies
  • Note: Adjunct faculty is compensated at $25.00/hour.

Wi-Fi Network Upgrade
IT staff are upgrading Wi-Fi network infrastructure at every College location. This change implements Wi-Fi 6, also known as high-efficiency Wi-Fi. Advantages to this newer technology include:

  • Twice the bandwidth of the previous version, nearly doubling maximum data rates and decreasing upload and download times.
  • Reduced interference between wireless devices, allowing more people to use WiFi simultaneously.
  • Significantly reduced power consumption, increasing battery life for mobile devices and laptops.

Expect upgrade completion by Nov 1.
