The latest information and employee notices at pima.edu/covid19 include a link to the FAQs about the self-reporting requirement under the temporary COVID-19 personnel policies, plus a link the Employee Handbook.

Cababi Release Party
A release party for the unveiling of the 2020-2021 Cababi Art & Literary Magazine will be held 5-7 p.m. April 29. This Google Meet event will feature readings from Cababi writers and artist studio tours from the visual artists. This fine magazine showcases the talents of the Pima employees at all levels.

Workshop-How to Apply for a Sabbatical Workshop
Full-time faculty members interested in applying for a sabbatical are invited to a virtual meeting on How to Apply for a Sabbatical with members of the Faculty Professional Development and Sabbatical Standing Committee. It will cover the steps involved in applying for a sabbatical, explain how sabbatical proposals are evaluated, and answer questions about the process. The meeting is 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. April 22 on Zoom.

6th Annual Ethnic, Gender, Transborder Studies and Sociology Summit April 23
The 6th Annual Ethnic, Gender, Transborder Studies and Sociology Summit will feature Yaba Blay, Ph.D., a “nationally recognized scholar-activist, public speaker and cultural consultant whose scholarship, work and practice centers on the lived experiences of Black women and girls, with a particular focus on identity/body politics and beauty practices.” (yabablay.com). The topic is “The Power of Sharing Our Stories: Joy, Resistance and Resilience. The event is 9 a.m.-1 p.m. April 23.

The keynote presentations will be followed by a Q&A, and a panel of local artists and activists will connect and share around the theme of telling stories and the importance of resistance and activism in our communities. Register here.

Get a Sneak Preview of Pima’s New Facilities and Enjoy One of Tucson’s Best Car Shows
For one glorious Saturday each April, the west parking lot at Downtown Campus is home to the state’s oldest street rod and custom car show. On April 24, the Tucson Street Rod Association (TSRA) will hold its annual Rodders Days Car Show at the campus, marking an innovative four-year partnership between Pima and TSRA. There will be hand-built street rods, custom and classic cars, some worth up to $100,000; antique engines and mining equipment; vintage campers; food vendors and more. In addition, Dean of Applied Technology Greg Wilson will lead tours of the brand new Automotive Technology and Innovation Center, part of the Center of Excellence in Applied Technology. Admission is free, and parking is plentiful.

Pima Arts News
Pima Theater will present scenes from “Romeo and Juliet” on Zoom April 23 to 25. Pima Dance is featured in an April 17 virtual mini-concert. Visit the Pima Arts news page for information on all upcoming events.

Benefits Open Enrollment Through April 30
Through April 30, benefit-eligible College employees who want to make changes to their current benefit elections may do so online (the Employee Service Center is moving to paperless enrollment this year). Staff Council Nominations
Staff Council is seeking nominations for its 2021 representatives election. It is open to all regular full-time staff. Staff Council Representatives chosen in this election will serve two-year terms: July 1, 2021-June 30, 2023. Please consider nominating your colleagues or yourself. Attention, Entrepreneurs: IDEA Funding April 15
The College is collaborating with Startup Tucson to make Southern Arizona’s largest entrepreneurial conference available free to Pima students, staff and faculty. On April 15, members of the Pima community may join hundreds of entrepreneurs, investors, business leaders and students to learn, be inspired and build their network. Register today.

2021 Virtual Futures Conference
Contribute to Pima’s strategic planning by attending the 2021 virtual Futures Conference, an annual exchange of ideas between Pima students and employees, and community members. This year’s conference is virtual and interactive. The next session is 9 to 11 a.m. April 16. The topic is Feedback on Draft Strategic Plan for 2021-2026.

No RSVP needed. The 2021 Futures Conference may be accessed via a PCCTV livestream.

Support Pima in the Data & Analytics Professional Award Vote
Pima Vice Chancellor for Strategy, Analytics and Research Nic Richmond, Ph.D., is one of 150 finalists for Data and Analytics Professional of the Year, awarded by OnConferences.

Nominees come from financial services, telecommunications, media, education, transportation and other sectors of the economy. Richmond is the only finalist from a community college. Voters can select those finalists whom they have observed do one or more of the following:

  • Made a considerable impact on their organization/previous organizations
  • Made strong contributions to the data and analytics community through thought leadership
  • Innovated in their role/career
  • Exhibited exceptional leadership
