A Note to @PimaNews Readers

Because of the COVID-19 crisis, @PimaNews is highlighting recent COVID-19-related policy and procedure changes. The College will revise and update the information as the situation warrants. College leaders are committed to communicating with employees early and often during this uncertain time. However, they realize that the amount of information and details sometimes can be overwhelming.

COVID-19 Drive-thru Testing at Desert Vista, East and West Campuses
Pima’s Facilities, Police and Environmental Health and Safety, in partnership with the Pima County Health Department and Arizona State University, have opened COVID-19 drive-thru testing sites. Appointments are required. When registering for your appointment, use agency code “SALIVATEST.” If you have scheduling issues or questions, email COVID19info@ASU.edu.

Coping with COVID
Pima’s EAP provider, Jorgensen Brooks Group, is holding monthly check-in meetings to discuss Coping with COVID:

Faculty Can Request a Virtual Tutor Class Visit
Virtual tutoring with Pima’s Learning Center increases student success. One of the best ways to encourage students to use those services is for faculty to request a Learning Center professional to speak with your class for five minutes. To arrange a visit or to get more information on tutoring, email pcc-tutoring@pima.edu.

Be a Presenter at the 2021 Virtual Tucson Festival of Books
Pima employees who want to present and discuss an original written work – in front of a virtual audience potentially numbering in the thousands – are encouraged to submit a video for inclusion in the program for the 2021 Tucson Festival of Books, which will be held virtually March 6-7.

College to Deploy Google Drive File Stream
In March, the College will begin deploying Google Drive File Stream to staff desktops (both PCs and Macs). Google Drive File Stream is an application that makes it easier to access files and folders in your Google Drive and Shared Drive from the file explorer, folder and/or mapped drive on your computer. Unlike similar tools, Google Drive File Stream does not download all Google Drive files onto your computer. Rather, it streams the file directly from the cloud to your device when you need it. This avoids filling up the disk space on your device and causing network bandwidth issues. Additionally, you can mark files for offline use, and they will be synchronized with your Drive/Shared Drive when you reconnect to the Internet. For more information, see the Google Drive File Stream FAQ.

Library Textbook Support Options for Faculty and Students
The Library will scan faculty’s initial reading assignments if it has the textbook on Reserve to post in D2L. This is a stopgap while students wait for mailed copies. Alternatively, students can make an appointment with a scanner and the Reserve book at West Campus.

Pima Employment Opportunities for Internal Candidates
Pima values its employees and wants them to advance their careers at the College, which is why some positions are open only to internal candidates. To view, go to MyCareerCenter > Internal Jobs (menu on the top banner) > Career Center > Explore Open Jobs > Search. Part-time staff and adjunct faculty, refer to AP 2.02.01 sections 1.2.3 and 1.2.4 for eligibility.
