PCC Softball Team Volunteers at Richie’s Walk

Tucson, AZ – The softball team set up three activities for people to try at the Richie’s Walk event held at the Flowing Wells football field on Friday. Richie’s Walk raises disability-awareness and is also a fundraiser for the local chapter of the American Cancer Society.

Pima players and coaches watched and encouraged people throw football and tennis balls at targets and also had batting practice where people could hit off a t-ball stand.

This was the first year the softball team participated in the event.

Pima freshman Alyssa Guevara (Cienega HS) said she had a great time sharing stories and talking with the kids while they threw tennis balls at a circular target.

“The kids, I can’t explain how awesome they were,” Guevara said. “To see them smiling and waving at you, it’s something that puts a smile on your face and makes you feel good. It’s giving back and that’s the most important thing.”

Mimi Lawton, a Special Education Life Skills teacher at Flowing Wells, has helped organize the event for the last 12 years and said this was the most participation Richie’s Walk has ever had from various schools and the community. She was impressed with the softball team’s involvement.
