Change can be random or calculated. Either one can make you feel out of control. There is fear in change that turns things in a different direction than you hoped. There is a fear of things never changing to improve. Images, objects or stories that depict this changing can give the feeling of control, or how little control we have.
So, I attempt to show change in my work, particularly how change builds a history, often of deterioration. Most of my works have a broken and put back together feel. Surfaces are worn and often show layers of underneath coatings and materials. Figures have a fragmented form or surface. Structures are bent, twisted, repaired and reused. I work towards showing a history to each that shows change, its richness and its fragility and a conflict within it.
