  • The citizens of Pima County approved, by a large margin, the formation of Pima College


  • The citizens of Pima County elected the first Board of Governors for the College
  • The voters approved a $5.9 million bond issue for the College
  • The College chose 500 acres on the West side of Tucson for the first College campus


  • Construction on the first campus began on what is now the West Campus
  • The College issues its first credits to 28 Native American students who qualified to work as Head Start teachers and aides on the reservation
  • The College’s first classes met at the Tucson Medical Center, Villa Maria, and in Marana
