Enrollment Requirements

Applying for Program Admission

Business Technology clock-hour certificate programs offered through the Center for Training and Development (CTD) require a special CTD program application, called a program passport. After completing the passport, students will attend a selection interview to review their application.

The following basic requirements must be fulfilled before students may begin the application process.  Students must:

  • Be flexible with balancing employment, personal and academic schedules and responsibilities.
  • Be able to provide their own transportation from the College to internship sites (if an internship is part of the certificate)
  • Be able to perform the physical activities required by the profession, including but not limited to sitting for extended periods of time, repeating hand motions, watching monitors for prolonged periods of time.  Externships, particularly in medical environments, can place students under considerable mental and emotional stress as they undertake responsibilities and duties impacting peoples’ lives.  Students must be able to demonstrate rational and appropriate behavior under stressful conditions.  Individuals should give careful consideration to the mental and physical demands of the program prior to making application.

    Previous office experience and computer application usage required
  • Legal Office Support
    Previous office experience and computer application usage required

Placement scores

Students must achieve the following scores on the Accuplacer exam before enrolling in the certificate program.

NOTE:  if you are unable to meet these required scores, CTD provides basic skills reviews in the Desert Vista Campus Learning Center that may be able to assist you to reaching the scores needed.

Special Requirements for Some Externship Sites

Some externship sites require students to meet additional requirements before students can be placed at that location.  While not required at all sites, students unable to meet the requirements given below may have difficulty in both obtaining externships and obtaining employment. Externships are not guaranteed, the examples below are not a complete list of potential externship site requirements, and the requirements are subject to change by the externship site.

Note: If you have questions about possible externship site requirements, please contact a CTD student services specialist or the program coordinator with any questions.

General, Legal, and Accounting Externships

  • Pass a urine toxicology screening exam.
  • Pass a background check, ethical decision making exam, or similar exam handled by the externship site.
  • Complete a typing and/or skill assessment exam conducted by the externship site.
  • Provide educational grades and/or letters of recommendation.
  • Complete an interview

Medical-Related Externships

  • Obtain an Arizona Department of Public Safety Fingerprint Clearance Card.
  • Pass a background check handled by the externship site.
  • Pass a urine toxicology screening exam.
  • Present proof of immunization and/or immunity for MMR/Varicella/Hepatitis-B/TdaP.
  • Show proof of negative TB skin test or negative chest x-ray for TB.
  • Complete a typing and/or skill assessment exam conducted by the externship site.
  • Provide educational grades and/or letters of recommendation.
  • Complete an interview
