PCC's Festival of Democracy draws hundreds in Jan. 8 remembrance
January 10, 2012
Hundreds of Tucsonans gathered at Pima Community College's West Campus Saturday for our Festival of Democracy, an enlightening morning of activities that commemorated the first anniversary of the Jan. 8, 2011 tragedy.
The signature event of the Festival was Constitution Corner, which featured readings of essential documents from U.S. history. Tucson Mayor Jonathan Rothschild and other elected officials read from the U.S. Constitution, as did survivors of the shootings, students, and many of those intimately related to the tragedy, such as PCC employee Ross Zimmerman and former PCC student Daniel Hernandez.
The event was covered by local and national media, including The Arizona Republic, which published an informative story describing the Festival on its website.
