Tucson, AZ -- Pima Community College's performing arts department presents the dance concert "Wonders of the World," under the direction of Aurora Gonçalves-Shaner. Dancers explore the world’s most spectacular natural wonders and man-made structures, along with the culture of each region. Ballet, modern and jazz dances are choreographed to an eclectic array of music reflecting different cultures. Colorful costumes and huge projections create a globe-trotting journey extraordinaire.
The first half of the program features natural wonders — the skies, seas, plants and animals including the galaxies, the Aurora Borealis, the Great Barrier Reef, and the jungles of the Amazon and Africa. The second half of the program highlights man-made wonders from the ancient world to the modern world, including Greece’s Parthenon, Italy’s Tower of Pisa, the Great Wall of China, France’s Eiffel Tower, Dubai’s Burj Khalifa, and Brazil’s Christ the Redeemer statue (with the soundtrack from the animated movie “Rio” enhancing the samba and carnival movements).
