PCC Launches Pilot One-Year Degree Program

October 17, 2012

New Sprint Schedule Offered at East Campus

Tucson, AZ – Pima Community College is offering ambitious students the opportunity to complete an Associate Degree in Liberal Arts in one year.

PCC’s new Sprint Schedule is being piloted at the East Campus and will require students to maintain an aggressive load of traditional and online courses over a calendar year.

“Following the Sprint Schedule is not for everyone,” said East Campus Vice President of Instruction Deborah Yoklic. “But for anyone who is willing and able to make the commitment, the payoff is huge: Completion of an associate degree in just one year.”

PCC’s Sprint Schedule has been in the making for more than a year and is the result of an extensive effort that involved the close cooperation of faculty, staff and administration.

The program starts in Spring 2013, meaning that successful students could complete their degree by the end of the Fall 2013 semester. Registration for Sprint Schedule classes begins Monday, Nov. 12. The schedule of classes is available online at www.pima.edu/schedule.

Sprint Schedule students must take at least 23 credits in the Fall and Spring semesters, plus 15 credits during the Summer 2013 semester. They will combine traditional 16-week courses, as well as 5-, 8- and 10-week courses and online courses.

In order for students to qualify for financial aid, each of the three semesters must contain at least one full-semester class and consecutive five-week and eight-week courses to fill the semester evenly. To qualify for financial aid for Summer, a student must enroll for Spring.

To learn more, see the Sprint Schedule webpage, www.pima.edu/sprint-schedule.  Students interested in enrolling should see an East Campus advisor for more information. East Campus’ Student Service Center is at 206-7662. The East Campus is at 8181 E. Irvington Road.
