PCC Sculpture-On-Campus reception Oct. 10 for seven new art installations at East Campus
October 5, 2012
Tucson, AZ – The public is invited to celebrate the works of seven Arizona artists next week at a reception for new sculptures on display at Pima Community College’s East Campus.
Wednesday’s fourth Sculpture-On-Campus Installation Reception begins in the campus’ Community Room with refreshments and welcoming remarks, followed by a grand tour of the entire Sculpture-On-Campus Project, which features 15 sculptures displayed throughout the grounds of the East Campus.
The public also will be able to talk to most of the artists who have graciously made their works available for College students, staff and visitors to enjoy.
“We are delighted that Pima Community College continues to serve as a venue to display magnificent works by local and regional artists,” said East Campus President Charlotte Fugett. “This gives our community a delightful exhibition and amplifies our focus to dedicate the campus, both within and outside the classroom, to being a total learning environment for our students.”
The artists and their works installed at East Campus are:
- Jason Breitenbucher, “Solvolaré”
- Jason Butler, “Donald Judd, “The Cubes Alone Were Never Enough!”
- Kevin Caron, “Wherever You Go, There You Are”
- Joe Dal Pra, “Control and Obsession 2”
- Elizabeth Frank, “Earth and Sky”
- Barbara Jo McLaughlin, “Anticipation”
- Joan Waters, “ultimate reality show”
Three of those selected for the 2012 Sculpture-On-Campus installations are PCC art faculty members: Joe Dal Pra and Barbara Jo McLaughlin, both full-time, as well as Jason Butler, a PCC adjunct. In addition, Butler, Caron and Waters have had other works displayed previously as part of Sculpture-On-Campus. Participation is open to all Arizona residents.
Mike Stack, a PCC Art Faculty member since 2002 who helps coordinate the project, said works are chosen to inspire the kind of creative thinking that is essential for any academic institution. Each artist commits to a minimum time that the selected work will be displayed, but many leave works much longer.
