PCC Earns Ten Top Public Relations Honors

October 3, 2012

Awards in Writing, Design, Web, Video and Marketing Presented

Tucson, AZ – Pima Community College is the winner of 10 awards – more than any other college in Arizona and three neighboring states – from the National Council for Marketing and Public Relations.

The College took home the top honors in eight categories from the NCMPR District 6 conference that was held Sept. 28 in Santa Barbara, Calif.

“These awards are a testament to the high quality work created on a daily basis by the College’s dedicated and creative staff,” said Interim Chancellor Dr. Suzanne Miles. “This recognition by NCMPR is well-deserved.”

PCC’s winning entries were for work produced by its Office of Public Information, Center for Learning Technology and Web Systems department. PCC’s new website, which went live in February, was among four first place Gold Medallion awards won by the College.

“An award like this acknowledges the countless hours of hard work that many people invested in making our new website a reality,” said Louise Glogoff, the Web Systems director that spearheaded the project. “Like so much of what happens at Pima, our new website was a team effort and the entire team is proud of what we accomplished.”

The College also won first-place awards in:

The July 31 donation of the jet received considerable attention from local news outlets, such as the Arizona Daily Star and Arizona Public Media. The April 27 sock hop was a community event organized by PCC, the City of Tucson and the Tucson Historic Preservation Foundation to celebrate the installation of four restored neon signs. The effort resulted in PCC winning a 2012 Governor’s Heritage Preservation Honor.

PCC’s second-place winning entries include a print advertisement that appeared in a publication of the Tucson Hispanic Chamber of Commerce and a feature story on training first responders that appeared in the College’s Career Focus magazine.

NCMPR’s Medallion Awards recognize outstanding achievement in communications at community and technical colleges. It’s the only regional competition of its kind that honors excellence exclusively among marketing and public relations professionals at two-year colleges.

The organization’s District 6 includes community colleges in Arizona, California, Hawaii, Nevada, Utah, Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, Federated States of Micronesia, Republic of Palau, Republic of the Marshall Islands and Territory of Guam.

Other Arizona winners include Maricopa Community College, Cochise College, Arizona Western College and Mohave Community College.

A complete list of winning entries by PCC and other District 6 institutions is available online.
