Tucson, Arizona--Pima Community College Wind Ensemble, under the direction of Dr. Mark Nelson, kicks off its fall concert series with an eclectic mix of mostly American compositions.
Program selections include Claude T. Smith’s tour-de-force concert band opener “Emperata Overture;” Robert Smith’s “Brazil: Ceremony, Song and Samba” spotlighting the talents of the percussion section; and Harry Alford’s classic “The Purple Carnival” march. Rounding out the program is Robert Smith’s “Incantations,” Eric Whitacre’s beautiful choral-turned-band arrangement “Lux Aurumque” (light and gold), and Luigi Denza’s jovial piece “Funiculi, Funicula” about the incline the 19th century railway that goes to the top of Mount Vesuvius. The concert also features selections for the woodwind, brass and percussion ensembles.
Pima Community College Center for the Arts is located on the West Campus just west of downtown and I-10 on St. Mary’s Rd, which turns into Anklam Rd. Box office hours are Tuesday-Friday, noon to 5 p.m. and one hour prior to performance.
