Former PCC baseball pitchers taken in MLB draft

Two former PCC baseball pitchers were taken in the MLB draft this week.

The Detroit Tigers drafted Julio Felix (Sunnyside HS) in the 12th round with the 394th pick. Felix was 9-2 with a 2.06 ERA in 2012. He pitched 91.2 innings and had 68 strikeouts. Felix was named First Team All-Arizona Community College Athletic Conference and First Team All-Region I, Division I.

Robert Ravago (Pueblo HS), who pitched for the Aztecs in the 2010 and 2011 seasons, was selected as the 677th pick in the 22nd round by the Miami Marlins. Ravago finished 4-1 with a 2.56 ERA at Arizona State University this year.

In Ravago's sophomore season with the Aztecs, he finished 1-0 with a 1.66 ERA with 27 strikeouts and 38.0 innings pitched.

Two Pima softball players earn NFCA All-American honors

Sophomore pitcher Marina Contreras and freshman outfielder Cynthia Pelayo were named All-Americans by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA). The three-team list came out on Wednesday.

Contreras (Sunnyside HS) was one of four pitchers selected to the First Team while Pelayo was one of four outfielders who made the Second Team. 

Both players became eligible for the All-American teams because they were named to the First Team All-West Region.

Pima soccer player featured in recruiting class article

Pima goalkeeper Daniel Bacon (Sahuaro HS) signed to play at the University of South Carolina Upstate. He is one of 10 recruits featured in an article on the school's website.

Bacon helped the men's soccer team to a 19-7 record, a Region I Championship, a West District Championship and a fifth-place finish at Nationals. He finished with 90 saves on the year.
