PCC Holds Earth Day Events at Northwest, Downtown and Desert Vista

April 13, 2012

Tucson, AZ -- Pima Community College is planning Earth Day-related events at its Northwest, Downtown and Desert Vista campuses.

On April 18, nearly 70 community groups will participate in Earth Day events at the Northwest Campus, 7600 N. Shannon Road. It’s an opportunity to encourage students and members of the community to explore the natural world and learn about the geosciences. Participants get the chance to learn about astronomy, climatology, geology and protection of the environment. They can sample food cooked in a solar oven and check out the accuracy of the giant campus sundial.

The event is 9 a.m.-1 p.m. on the 2nd level. It is free and open to the public.

On April 23, 11 a.m.-4 p.m., the public is invited to the Downtown Campus, 1255 N. Stone Ave., for the Show, Tell, Give: Earth Day event. It will take place in the courtyard and is a combined Earth Day celebration, art showcase, and reading aimed at recognizing Pima Community College students’ talents while also gathering donations for “Operation Gratitude.” Operation Gratitude is an organization that distributes care packages to U.S. service members. Donated items for Operation Gratitude can include personal letters, candy, snack items, socks (black, grown, green, or tan), personal electronics, gift cards and stationery.

On April 26, Desert Vista, 5901 S. Calle Santa Cruz, will have an Earth Day Garden celebration at its Campus Garden from 11:30 a.m.-1:15 p.m.
