New PCC Internal Auditor Has Broad Public, Private Experience
April 11, 2012
Tucson, AZ – A University of Arizona graduate with nearly 20 years’ experience as an auditor in the public and private sectors will become Pima Community College’s next internal auditor.
“As a former Pima Community College student, I am very excited about returning to Tucson and serving as the internal auditor for the College,” said Lori Cox, who was selected from 25 applicants from around the country who applied for the post.
Ms. Cox attended PCC in the 1982-83 academic year, taking courses in Writing, Humanities and Dance before transferring to the University of Portland. Ms. Cox then transferred to UA, where she received a bachelor’s in Business Administration. Ms. Cox went on to earn a master’s degree in Business Administration from Grand Canyon University.
Her professional experience includes serving for two years as the director of public policy and ethics for the world’s premier internal auditing professional association.
“The internal auditor’s work is crucial in helping Pima Community College fulfill its mission,” PCC Governing Board Chairman Scott Stewart says. “Having an unflinching analysis of fiscal and other practices is necessary for the College to remain a responsible steward of public funds.”
The Governing Board, as part of its consent agenda, has scheduled a vote Wednesday on Ms. Cox and other candidates recommended for employment at the College. The meeting begins at 7 p.m. Wednesday at PCC’s District Office, 4905 E. Broadway.
PCC has employed a Director of Internal Audit since at least 1995. Internal auditing provides independent, objective appraisal of College operations, including programs, finances and governance. The internal auditor has complete access to College employees, policies, procedures and data.
Ms. Cox, who will be paid an annual salary of $94,982, worked as director of internal audit for the Puyallup Tribe in Tacoma, Wash., for two years. She served as internal auditor for the Pascua Yaqui Tribe in Tucson for 10 years. Ms. Cox also has been an audit supervisor for the Metromedia Restaurant Group in Dallas, and senior auditor for the Alexandria, Va., regional office of CVS Pharmacy.
Additionally, Ms. Cox served as Director of Public Policy and Ethics for the Institute of Internal Auditors for two years. Based in Altamonte Springs, Fla., the IIA is the profession’s global voice, with more than 70,000 members in over 150 chapters in the United States, Canada and the Caribbean.
In addition to internal audits, the College is subject to annual external audits by the Auditor General of Arizona, and by other entities in order to fulfill contractual obligations or to assure compliance with federal, state or College policies, regulations, or practices.
