PCC Board Member Longoria Selected for Prestigious Flinn-Brown Civic Leadership Academy
March 21, 2012
Tucson, AZ – Pima Community College Governing Board member David Longoria is one of 25 Arizonans selected to take part in the prestigious Flinn-Brown Civic Leadership Academy this spring.
The academy develops future state leaders through seminars, connections with established leaders, and individual plans for involvement in statewide issues and institutions. Participants use real-world data to analyze statewide policy issues in order to understand how different perspectives, civic-leadership skills, and real-world insights blend to achieve goals for the common good.
The academy is a key component of the Arizona Center for Civic Leadership, an organization dedicated to providing Arizona with leaders and governance structures that can further the state’s development in the 21st century.
“I am honored to be chosen to take part in the academy,” Mr. Longoria said. “It is an exciting learning opportunity, and I hope to share the knowledge and insights I will gain with my fellow Board members so that we can better serve the educational needs of the people of Pima County.”
Mr. Longoria was appointed to the Governing Board in February 2010 and was elected in November 2010 to serve a six-year term.
Mr. Longoria has worked as a public servant in local government for Pima County since 2002, collaborating with community leaders to improve neighborhoods throughout the region. He has served as Vice Chair for the Regional Transportation Authority’s Citizens Accountability for Regional Transportation Committee, representing the City of South Tucson since 2006. Mr. Longoria sits on the Board of Directors of the Primavera Foundation, and is the current President of Amigos de Pima.
Mr. Longoria has a bachelor’s degree in English from the University of Arizona, graduating with honors; and a Master of Public Administration degree in Local Government and Non-Profit Management from the University of Arizona School of Government & Public Policy.
In August 2011, the Tucson Weekly published Mr. Longoria’s article on PCC admission standards.
