Tucson, AZ – Nearly two dozen Aviation Technology Program students will receive their certificates of completion during a public ceremony for friends and family on Friday evening.

  • When: 5:30 p.m., March 2, 2012

Chris Heredia, Director of Product Marketing for Meggitt PLC, is the guest speaker. The United Kingdom-based Meggitt is a global engineering group specializing in extreme environment components and smart sub-systems for aerospace, defense and energy markets. In Tucson, Meggitt's Meggitt Equipment Group operates Securaplane, USA.

“Aviation is one of the most dynamic and exciting industries to be involved with, and once again the aviation industry is poised to jump into the future with PCC’s graduates,” Heredia said.

The College offers certificate and degree opportunities in Airframe and Powerplant, Avionics, and Structural Repair concentrations. Most Aviation Technology Program students combine at least two concentrations. Students develop their skills on a variety of aircraft models, from single-engine Piper and Cessna airplanes to Boeing 727s jets. PCC has a transfer partnership with Eastern New Mexico University to receive a Bachelor’s Degree in Applied Arts & Sciences, Aviation Studies. However, most PCC Aviation Technology Program students have jobs by the time they graduate.

The Aviation Technology Program runs cohort classes year-round, with students completing in March and August each year.

The College’s state-of-the-art Aviation Technology Center (ATC) opened on the west side of Tucson International Airport in August 2001. The ATC features a 10,700 square foot hangar. Friday’s ceremony will be held inside the hangar, adjacent to one of the program’s Boeing 727s.

PCC’s Aviation Technology Program was the subject of recent news articles in the Arizona Daily Star and Aztec Press.
