PCC to Offer New Certificate in Behavioral Health Services

Tucson, AZ – The Pima Community College Board of Governors has approved a new program in Behavioral Health Services that will help meet demand for entry-level professionals in this important, fast-growing field.
Students completing the 18-credit program will receive a Basic Certificate for Direct Employment.
In Pima County, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics projects 16 percent growth for social- and behavioral-health technicians through 2018, and 15 percent growth in psychiatric technicians.
The new program will be headquartered at Desert Vista Campus and will be offered in partnership with the Native American Pathways Out of Poverty Network.
“Workforce development is a critical part of our mission,” said PCC Chancellor Roy Flores. “This program addresses a need identified by local healthcare providers, and is another example of how Pima Community College quickly responds to changing career trends.”
The Board voted to approve the program at its regular monthly meeting, held Wednesday evening at the College’s District Office.
The Board also elected Scott Stewart to be its Chairman for 2012. Mr. Stewart, an optical engineer and manager at Raytheon, has represented District 4 on the PCC Board since being elected in 1998, and re-elected in 2004 and 2010. He succeeds Marty Cortez.
In addition, the Board elected District 1 Member Dr. Brenda B. Even to serve as Secretary for 2012. Dr. Even succeeds Mr. Stewart in the position. Terms for Chairman and Secretary last for one year.
The Board also approved a schedule of regular meetings for the remainder of 2012: February 8, March 14, April 11, May 16, June 20, July 11, August 8, September 12, October 24, November 14, December 12 and January 9, 2013.
The Feb. 8 meeting begins at 7 p.m. in the Community/Board Room of at PCC’s District Office, 4905 E. Broadway.
