PCC, ASU Expanding Program That Streamlines Path to Bachelor’s Degree
December 19, 2011
Tucson, AZ – Pima Community College and Arizona State University are expanding a program to increase the number of PCC students who obtain bachelor’s degrees at ASU.
Sixteen degrees have been added to the Transfer Admission Guarantee (TAG) program, bringing the total number of degrees in the program to 27.
TAG is a degree-to-degree transfer program that guarantees admission into an ASU undergraduate-degree program for PCC students who complete the requirements of the TAG. Each Transfer Admission Guarantee program includes an appropriate Arizona General Education Curriculum (AGEC), major courses designated by both the ASU and PCC degree program, and any electives required to complete an associate’s degree. Under the program, students complete associate’s degrees at PCC and bachelor’s degrees at ASU.
Arizona resident students who successfully complete TAG requirements and transfer to ASU within three years of entering the program are eligible to participate in the ASU Tuition Commitment program, which reduces tuition increases during their matriculation at ASU.
The new bachelor’s degrees are in the following areas of study:
- Biological Sciences
- Business (Accountancy)
- Business (Economics)
- Business (Finance)
- Business (Management)
- Business (Marketing)
- Business (Management Entrepreneurship)
- Business (Public Service and Public Policy)
- Business (Supply Chain Management)
- Criminal Justice & Criminology
- Family & Human Development
- History
- Justice Studies
- Political Science
- Sociology
- Technical Communication
PCC and ASU have a strong history of developing collaborations and partnerships to support transfer student success. As the need for educated workers in the state increases, they are ramping up their efforts. Goals include encouraging Pima students to earn an associate’s degree before transferring, making students aware of financial aid opportunities and requirements, and increasing collection and sharing of data.
“We are strengthening our relationship with Arizona State University to ensure that residents of Pima County have additional paths to baccalaureate degrees,” says PCC Chancellor Dr. Roy Flores. “The Transfer Admission Guarantee program is a tremendous opportunity for PCC students. It complements existing articulation initiatives and adds to our list of transfer partnerships.”
Another new option is the RN-BSN Pathway Program for students completing an Associate of Applied Science in Nursing at Pima. Up to 75 credits may apply toward the Bachelor of Science in Nursing at ASU, and students in this program are also eligible for the ASU Tuition Commitment program.

Earlier this year, PCC and the University of Arizona entered into an agreement to provide seamless degree-to-degree transfer in 15 disciplines. PCC also partnered in a joint admission program with Northern Arizona University.
