Vocational School Students Earn College Credit from PCC

October 27, 2011

Tucson, AZ – Pima Community College and The Learning Center (TLC) are partnering so that  students enrolled at the Las Vegas-based vocational school can earn college credit for approved courses.

“This partnership will meet the training needs of a large population of students,” said Greg Wilson, PCC’s Manager of National Programs, Workforce and Business Development. “Part of Pima’s strategic plan includes expanding educational and workforce opportunities. As with our other national partnerships, Pima is very interested in helping experienced professionals seeking to sharpen their technical skills. This program will offer opportunities for advancement and a path to earning certificates and a college degree.”

Approved courses meet both PCC’s academic standards and industry criteria. To earn college credit, students must complete all coursework, pass completion exams, and fulfill application requirements according to PCC guidelines. Students may apply these credits toward an Associate of Applied Science degree from PCC.

“We are very pleased to announce this exciting partnership,” said Linda Montgomery, president of TLC. “Students taking our Microsoft, CompTIA and Cisco technical courses as well as our desktop application courses are now eligible to earn college credit from PCC.”

Students receive a letter grade for each course and all courses are part of the student’s official college transcript.  PCC will work with each student to review courses taken at other institutions for possible application toward degree completion.
