PCC, TUSD African American Studies Sponsor PARENT UNIVERSITY

Tucson, AZ – Dr. Jawanza Kunjufu is the guest lecturer at the second PARENT UNIVERSITY: “Changing Lives, Building Community” on Saturday, Oct. 29, 2011.

The event, a collaboration between Pima Community College and Tucson Unified School District African American Studies Department, is for parents and grandparents of TUSD students and is designed to strengthen the sense of community.

Dr. Kunjufu has written nearly three dozen books, including “Black Students: Middle Class Teachers” and “Keeping Black Boys Out of Special Education,” and has been a guest on “The Oprah Winfrey Show.”

PARENT UNIVERSITY is 9 a.m.-2 p.m., at Santa Rita High School, 3951 S. Pantano Road. Those attending will learn the “ins” and “outs” of TUSD and its African American Studies Department, and how PCC can help get kids prepare for college. The event will feature more than 10 workshops on succeeding in school and life. Topics include financial aid options for the entire family, athletics, University of Arizona, Northern Arizona University and Historical Black colleges.
