PCC Board Renews 5-year Agreement with Davis-Monthan AFB
May 13, 2010
Tucson, AZ – The Pima Community College (PCC) Board of Governors Wednesday night approved the renewal of a five-year Memorandum of Understanding with the Davis-Monthan Air Force Base to provide educational programming and services supporting student completion of Associate of Liberal Arts (AGEC-A), Associate of Business (AGEC-B), Associate of Science (AGEC-S) and Associate of General Studies degrees.
PCC’s Community Campus has provided instructional programs and education services at Davis-Monthan since 1981. Approximately 3,500 students are served annually at the education center on the base. While the center’s primary purpose is to serve military personnel and their families, any U.S. or naturalized citizen enrolled at the College may attend classes at Davis-Monthan. The agreement is effective July 1, 2010 through June 30, 2015.
In other matters last night, the Board approved an agreement with Rural Metro Corp. to provide credit courses by mutual agreement. Those courses cover fire science, emergency medical technology (EMT 100 and EMT 159 only) and/or support courses for the credential program in those areas as well as professional development. Under the reciprocal agreement, the College provides such services as registration, advising and credentialing, while Rural Metro provides the instructors, class space and materials.
The College trains more first responders than any other education institution in the county. PCC’s Community Campus Public Safety and Emergency Services Institute (PSESI) with partner agencies have been providing the programs.
Classes will be offered either in an academy format, with a series of courses designed for a cohort of students seeking necessary certifications or credentials, or individually as requested by the agency. The agreement is effective from July 1, 2010 through June 30, 2015. Pima has been providing training to Rural Metro employees since 1999.
Also, last night, in keeping with the College’s annual practice regarding budget adoption, the Board approved a comprehensive preliminary overview of the Fiscal Year 2009-10 Proposed Budget and the Capital Budget plan for Fiscal Years 2011 and 2012. The approvals are in preparation for final acceptance of the budgets in June.
