Earth Day Festivities
April 14, 2010
Join us in a celebration of planet Earth at Pima Community College’s Northwest Campus, 7600 N. Shannon Road. The family-friendly, free event will take place April 21, 9 a.m.-1 p.m. on the second level of the campus.
Participants have the opportunity to learn about conservation, recycling, native plants and animals, and astronomy and geology through displays by government agencies and nonprofit organizations. You can also find out about science, technology, engineering and math opportunities at PCC, the University of Arizona, Arizona State University and Northern Arizona University from advisors and admissions counselors at the event.
The event will be educational and entertaining for all, with opportunities to test your knowledge in fun quizzes covering astronomy and planet Earth, and the chance to use the giant campus sundial and to try food cooked in a solar oven.
This year marks the 40th anniversary of Earth Day, first held on April 22, 1970, as a protest by Americans concerned about the deterioration of the environment. In rallies across the country, people demonstrated as a call for action toward creating a healthy, sustainable environment.
