Marshall Elected Chair of PCC Board of Governors

Tucson, AZ – The Pima Community College (PCC) Board of Governors Wednesday elected Sherryn S. “Vikki” Marshall to be its Chair for 2010.
Marshall has represented District 3 on the PCC Board since being elected in 2000. She was re-elected in 2006.
Marshall, a re-employment specialist for Pima County’s Community Services Department, succeeds Board Member Dr. Brenda Even as chair. Board Chair terms last one year.
In addition, the Board elected District 5 Member E. Marty Cortez as Secretary for 2010. Cortez succeeds Marshall in the position.
Marshall and Cortez were elected at the Board’s annual meeting, which preceded its regular meeting Wednesday night.
At its regular meeting, the Board unanimously approved submitting a grant proposal to the United States Department of Labor for a training program in the fields of renewable energy and energy efficiency.
Under the grant, PCC would establish and maintain a Statewide Green Energy Curriculum Center (GECC) for secondary and postsecondary curriculum development and certification. The GECC would create new courses and programs in energy-efficient building, solar power, thermal power, retrofitting, and other green areas.
The grant would be for $903,643 and would run from January 2010 to December 2012.
Also at its regular meeting, the Board renewed an Intergovernmental Agreement with the Pima Community Sheriff’s Department (PCSD). Under the agreement, which has been effect since 2005, PCC has provided educational programs in corrections and law enforcement to PCSD.
The next scheduled meeting of the Board will be Wednesday, February 17, 2010, at 7 p.m. in the PCC District Office Community/Board Room at 4905 E. Broadway.
