College Demonstrates Accountability

August 15, 2008
Pima Community College has released the results of its recently completed 2006 – 2008 College Plan.  The results were presented by Chancellor Roy Flores to the College’s Board of Governors at their regular public meeting on Wednesday, August 13.  The Board had authorized the Plan on June 14, 2006.

The 2006-2008 College Plan covered the period from July 1, 2006 through June 30, 2008.  It focused efforts on five initiatives:
1. Improve Institutional Outcomes
2. Expand Access to Learning
3. Establish a Student Retention System
4. Improve Processes and Operations
5. Optimize Use of Physical Assets

The Plan included 37 strategies and 201 action items, which explored important issues affecting students, employees, and the wider community. The final report includes the detailed activities that were carried out to complete the strategies and actions.

Of the 201 action items, 199 were completed within the Plan time period. The two incomplete actions will be completed during the current fiscal year.

According to Dr. Flores, “This was an ambitious plan, but we achieved what we set out to do.  The College Plan is a road map of how Pima Community College will carry out our mission to improve our community through learning.  The plan addressed how we would improve institutional outcomes through better measurement, better services and higher rates of completion.  It tackled some long standing and very difficult issues of higher education, such as access and retention, and was successful.  We are making better use of our resources as part of our responsibility as a public institution.”
