PCC Live on Twitter
Pima Community College is live on Twitter. As with our Facebook page and YouTube channel, the primary audience of @pimatweets is current and prospective students who want to stay up-to-date about PCC. Our social media usage is designed to keep students informed about events, programs, opportunities, services, deadlines and much more! Please share @pimatweets with students! 

Read about PCC’s social media strategy, as well as the College’s plans for employing other social media platforms, on the employee intranet under Public Info & Fed Gov Relations (on the right-hand side of the screen). 

Also, if you know about something that you believe our students should know about, fill out an Online Marketing Request Form, also available on the intranet under Public Information, so that we can spread the word.

October is National Cyber Security Awareness Month
Stop. Think. Connect. 
As we celebrate the 10th anniversary of National Cyber Security Awareness Month please note that online safety awareness at  Pima Community College is a shared responsibility.

During Cyber Security Awareness Month, the Information Security Office will be providing tips on cyber security.  A way that everyone can increase cyber security is to stop, think, connect.

 What is stop, think, connect?

When you cross the street, you look both ways to be sure it’s safe. Staying safe on the Internet is similar. It takes common sense steps.

Stop: Before you use the Internet, take time to understand the risks and learn how to spot potential problems.  Is your antivirus, browser and other software up to date?

Think: Take a moment to be certain the path ahead is clear. Watch for warning signs and consider how your actions online could impact your safety, or Pima’s safety. Is that link in the email safe to click on? Where does the link in the text message or Facebook take you? Are you going to the website you think you are going to?

Connect: Enjoy the Internet with greater confidence, knowing you’ve taken steps to safeguard yourself and your computer.

Protect yourself and help keep the Web a safer place for everyone. 

Second Chance Conference for Employers, Ex-Offenders, Sept. 27
On Sept. 27, West Campus is the site of Second Chance, an informational conference aimed at employers and ex-offenders.

The public is invited to attend the conference from 11:30 a.m.-6 p.m., in Aztec Gymnasium. The keynote address will be given by Diane Williams, president and CEO of Safer Foundation, a national group that works on re-entry issues.

Partners in the conference include the City of Tucson, Community Partnership of Southern Arizona, Primavera Foundation and Pima County Attorney’s Office.

Give Your Feedback on All College Day

Cyclical Review
Cyclical Review could be coming your way soon. Check out the updated information on the Human Resources Compensation and Classification Intranet page. Once there you will find a link to the most current Cyclical Review form and a list of classifications under study this year. Additionally, administrators receive information regarding the upcoming review process and timeline to share with supervisors of affected employees.  For questions contact Human Resources at 206-4624. 

Arizona Translators Conference at Downtown Campus, Oct. 12
Arizona Translators and Interpreters (ATI) is holding its Annual Conference at the Downtown Campus Oct. 12, 7:30 a.m.-5:30p.m., in the Amethyst Room of the CC building. Online registration is available at atiinc.org. Registration for ATI members is $75 and $100 for nonmembers. Students may register for $50.  Email questions regarding the conference to jwgabbitas@pima.edu or visit atiinc.org for more information. 

PCC to host Transfer Fair, Oct. 23
All students, staff, advisors and counselors are invited to attend the transfer fair to get up-to-date information on transferring to a college or university, admission requirements, majors and more. 

The Transfer Fair is from 11 a.m.-1 p.m., at the Northwest Campus and 3:30-5:30 p.m., at the Downtown Campus.

ACES Community Outreach Project – Barbecue
Join ACES to raise money for the families of our military personnel from Davis-Monthan Air Force Base. All proceeds go toward supporting our military families. 

Below are the dates and contact names for each location. Donations of items or cash to cover expenses will be accepted both prior to and during the events. Volunteers are needed. Speak with the contact for your location about how you can assist. 

Donations are given to the Tucson Chamber of Commerce Military Affairs Committee to assist with holiday food baskets and emergency requests from the families of the men and women who have been deployed from DM. In the last six years, Pima employees have donated more than $36,000. 

Ride for Pima in El Tour de Tucson
Ride for Pima! Join Pima’s team in the 31st Annual El Tour de Tucson, Nov. 23. 

Riders in America’s largest perimeter bicycling event can choose from 111-, 85-, 60- or 42-mile routes. The 85-mile route begins at East Campus. To enter, pay a $120 entry fee and raise at least $100 in contributions to benefit PCC. 

To participate, complete the El Tour de Tucson application and mail it with your $120 entry fee, payable to PCC Foundation, by Oct. 21, to 4905 E. Broadway Blvd., Tucson, AZ  85709-1320. Online registration is not available for this event.  Collect $100 or more in contributions for the PCC Foundation and receive additional benefits, including a water bottle, socks and a cycling jersey. Orchestra Tickets Discounted for Pima Employees
Faculty member Carolina Murphy has tickets for the whole season for Southern Arizona Symphony Orchestra at a discounted price for Pima employees. Concerts are Oct. 6, Nov. 10, Feb. 16, April 6 and May 11. Tickets are $15 for PCC employees. Please send an email to cmurphy@pima.edu or call ext. 7026. All employees are eligible to receive vaccinations at no charge, regardless of health plan coverage.  If you are a Cigna member, please bring your ID card.  Please note that we are unable to provide shots to family members or non-employees.

Hospital Reimbursement Deadline Reminder
By Sept. 27, employees who incurred inpatient/outpatient hospital costs while enrolled in the College’s Cigna medical plan during the 2012-13 plan year must complete and submit their reimbursement claim and supporting documentation to the Employee Service Center, mail code DO-1235, or fax to 206-4969. Examples of supporting documentation of the service and payment include a copy of a paid receipt and Cigna Explanation of Benefits.

Pima People 

  • Mike Stack, head of the PCC East Campus Art Department, has a solo exhibition at Chiaroscuro Contemporary Art in Santa Fe, N.M. The exhibition, “Distance,” is a collection of six paintings produced over the last year and runs Sept. 20-Oct. 18.
