PCC Women’s Basketball Wins Home Opener

Tucson, AZ – The women’s basketball team (2-4, 1-0 in conference) trailed at halftime but set the tone early in the second half in its 66-56 home opener win over Glendale Community College on Saturday at the West Campus’ Aztec Gym.

Desiree Phillips (Valley Vista HS) opened the second half hitting a 3-pointer to put Pima up 33-31. Glendale would tie it but then the Aztecs went on a 20-6 run to pull ahead 53-39 with 9:01 left in the game.

A’jha Edwards (Tombstone HS) had a balanced attack throughout the game. She scored 14 of her 27 points in the second half to lead the Aztecs. She also controlled the glass and finished with 19 rebounds. Felicia Foster (Peoria HS) contributed with 11 points.

“I’m proud of the girls’ effort and composure in the second half,” Pima coach Todd Holthaus said. “A’jha was the difference tonight and she’s worked hard to get here. The main thing is that it’s a home conference win.

The Aztecs will travel to Yuma on Tuesday to play Arizona Western College at 5:30 p.m.
