Softball pitching coach hired by UA program

August 1, 2012

Pima Community College softball pitching coach Mark Blair has decided to take a job offer with the University of Arizona softball team. He will officially sign on Aug. 16.

Blair, who had been with Pima for two years, will be a volunteer assistant. He sent a gracious email out about his time at Pima and the new chapter that awaits him at the UofA.

"My final day as an assistant coach for Pima CC softball will be bittersweet," he said in the email. "I look forward to my new home with the University of Arizona softball program but will deeply miss the day-to-day relationships I've developed with the players, coaches, athletic administration and maintenance personnel at Pima.

"Being hired as an assistant at the University of Arizona would not have been possible without the great learning afforded me by my fellow softball coaches and talented players. I love and respect you all."

Pima softball coach Armando Quiroz has hired Fred Fitzpatrick to be the next pitching coach. Fitzpatrick's hire is pending Governing Board approval on the Sept. 12 meeting at the West Campus.
