Board affirms open admissions policy

On June 25, 2013, the Board of Governors affirmed PCC's open admissions policy.

Motion: Open Admissions

Background

Concerns have been expressed, including those by the Higher Learning Commission, that the College changed from a policy of open admissions without following an appropriate process.

To address these concerns, on April 17, 2013, the Board suspended revisions to Standard Practice Guide, SPG-3501/AA on Admissions and Registration, that had been construed as a change from an open admissions policy.

Motion

To clarify the Board position on open admissions, I move that

  • The Board affirms the commitment of the College to open admissions as set forth in Board Policy BP- 3501, which has not changed;
  • The Board expresses its support for the in-depth review of SPG-35011AA on Admissions and Registration currently underway by the Provost's  Office;
  • The Board expresses its support for the proposed elimination of the asterisked language in SPG-35011AA on placement and registration standards that was temporarily suspended.
